Land Fill Art - Before

I was recently invited to become part of a project that embraces my passion for giving new life to discarded objects. The Landfillart project is a collection of 1041 artists from 51 different countries. Each artist was asked to transform a metal hubcap. Visit the Landfillart.org web site to learn more about the project and to see the finished works of art as they roll in.

I do not know where the Idea came from, but I have learned along the way: don't ask, just go with it !!!!  It really all came together easily - like when your painting and you feel as if the painting pretty much painted itself (I love that feeling!)
As a GREEN ARTIST I felted a true connection with wanting to tell a story and look into the future. If things don't change, will the eggs be different in the future? (There are bits and pieces of found items in the eggs instead of babies.) Will the only birds seen by the children in the future be photographs? (The nest is made of plastic bags and other throw a way items.) The shells of the eggs are papier mache using words from around the world (indicating that this is a world problem). The light works!!! It represents the light bulb going off: "Oh! I get it!! We NEED to do something !!!!  YES ...we need change !!!" That's just a little of the thought that went in to the the project, and the best part is that it's made from 100 per cent recycled items, too!!! Right down to the light bulb!!

It also turned into a family affair. Two of my friends agreed to have their faces melted together for mother earth, my son-in-law melted them together, my granddaughter (ALLY) drew the bird which is on the card hanging from the nest. My daughter kept them all on task, and my sweet hubby (my #1 supporter!!!) drilled holes, found wire and kept ME on task ...Thanks everyone !!!!

The finished piece is on the
Landfillart Project web site:

Go to:
